3. Why there are two sets of accounts and
passwords? back
The username and password is for
users’ access.
The account and password of administrator is to select and order books, and to
manage users. |
4. Can I download e books? back
No, neither Chinamaxx
nor Firstdrs supports download but only online
reading. |
5. Can I print? back
Yes. Chinamaxx permits 10 % or less printing per title for each user.
In firstdrs, you can print upto 50 pages per title per login session, and the total printing allowment is capped no more than 20% per title per week. You can print as many titles as you may need. |
6. Are latest titles included in this database? back
Yes. Our database is updated irregularly
to include the latest publications. |

Part II Technical Questions |
1. What does the message "Beyond the number of terminals" mean? back
For Terminal users, normally 100
terminals are assigned for database access. Our system calculates, on weekly
basis, the number of terminals used to access the database. An error message
displays when the number of terminals exceeds 100. |
2. Why do some books have no front cover page? back
This title may be in the process
of uploading. |
3. How to install properly the plug-in before reading back
a) The plug-in will be downloaded and installed automatically when the
first time reader attempt to read the full text by clicking “View entire
book”. If the title is not readable, error is likely to have occurred in
the process of automatic download and installation. Please return to the
homepage, click “Download Plug-in” to install it manually.
b) If the plug-in can not be installed properly, repeat the process
again until the plug-in is functional.

4. How to adjust the menu at the top of the reading
page? back
Right-click the mouse on the desktop, select the Properties, then set the screen resolution to 1024 by 768 pixels in settings. |
5. What to do when scripts in installation and in the table of contents doesn＊t display? back
i) Click Regional and Language Options in Control panel;
ii) Choose advanced setting to select Chinese (PRC) from the drop-down menu,
iii) Tick the box ※Apply all setting to the current user account and to the default user profile§.
iv) Then scripts in installation and in the table of contents should be displayed properly. |
6. How to make text link to the table of contents functional? back
If the table of contents doesn＊t function correctly, one probable reason is that the plug-in has been installed incompletely. You need to manually download the plug-in from our home page link. Make sure to close all IE windows before running the installation. |
7. How does the OCR function? back
When reading books in Chinamaxx, a user can convert the image format of the material into TXT format through the function of ※OCR Recognition§. Thus the materials can be further processed. |
8. What to do if OCR doesn＊t work? back
If
OCR is not properly functional, please manually download and install OCR by

9. Differences between IE reading and SSreader Viewer back
To read ebooks, you can choose one from the two readers;
a) Plug-in download and installation is down automatically if you choose IE reading. IE provides basic functions, turning pages, printing and OCR;
b) SSReader provides more reading functions, taking notes, highlights and adding remarks, use them to facilitate your paper writing. Download and install the reviewer manually following the instructions from the link of the homepage. |
